View Video Colonias Half-million people living on the margins — July 29, 2008

There are approximately half a million people living in what are termed “colonias” in southern Arizona and New Mexico. These border communities are characterized by poor quality housing, a lack of basic infrastructure, and high levels of poverty and unemployment.

A new book seeks to offer some insight into the history, and current dynamics of these communities. Producer Luis Carrion talks to one of the authors, and some individuals that are trying to break out of the poverty that entraps many of the residents.
