View Video Mariachi Conference Preserving Mariachi legacy — April 30, 2009

It's no secret that Mariachi is a pretty big deal in this town. The Tucson Mariachi Conference is the original, and some would say the best, conference devoted to the unique cultural legacy of this music, and it attracts practitioners and fans from across the US, and Mexico.

For local groups like Mariachi Aztlán, from Pueblo High School, the conference is an opportunity to learn from some of the masters, and to perform in front of appreciative audiences. Producer Luis Carrión talks to some of local musicians about the conference, and about what it means to play Mariachi in today's age of music hybridization.
