Mayor Bob Walkup
Finances, downtown and more — July 15, 2009
Tucson Mayor Bob Walkup says the city council is moving toward a legal challenge of the new law requiring nonpartisan elections in the city. However, Walkup says he has no problem with the legislation signed into law this week by the governor.
The Republican mayor also hopes a third party like the Rio Nuevo board can step in to help negotiate a settlement over the controversy between developers and the Rialto Theatre Foundation. Mayor Walkup also see a bright future for the downtown warehouse arts district but acknowledges fixing up the old buildings will be costly.
